The Chapman is named after the local Chapman Brook! It is tucked in a stand of evergreens and maples within a 128 acre parcel. Chandler Brook runs through the majority of the lot and meanders through a large marshland. The yurt has locking front and side doors. The side door gives access to the trash bin. The outhouse is convenientlyadjacent to The Chapman. In addition to the outhouse, guests have access to the centrally located bathhouse. The bathhouse can be walked to along a wooded trail or you can drive and use the parking area. The interior of the rustic/farmhouse style bathhouse feels warm and inviting. Stained concrete floors are throughout and guests will enjoy the radiant heat on their bare feet when getting out of the shower. The bathhouse has large rustic tub sinks for washing dishes and filling the water jug provided in each yurt. It houses a ladies’ and gent’s side, each with 2 private hot showers and 2 toilet stalls. The Yurt and Bathhouse were incredibly clean, well decorated, and stocked with all the supplies you could possibly need. Based on the map, the Chapman was one of the more secluded Yurts on the property which was well received by my girlfriend and me. We stayed at Western Maine Yurts due to its close proximity to Sunday River, but on our long ride home we wished we had more time staying at our Yurt! Will definitely be back.
Thank you so much for your great review! We hope to have you back again soon. You might also love "The Wild" yurt too, it is the one on it's own private driveway with a private outhouse. Perfect for couples :)
This is our second year staying at Western Maine Yurts. The yurts are charming and comfortable, with a great location less than 15 minutes from Sunday River. Great for kiddos - ours adores the loft and being out in the woods. We loved the new solo stoves outside for fires, and the switch from woodstove to propane heater makes heating the yurt easier. The propane heater is a bit loud, though, when it cycles on and off, so if you are a sensitive sleeper, bring earplugs. Kitchen is equipped for very basic cooking. I recommend bringing your own frying pan, especially if you want to cook something like eggs. If they had a sauna or hot tub, this place would be pretty much perfect in our book. Path to the bathhouse can get a bit slick, so you may want to bring microspikes for that.
We were beyond pleased with our stay. Communication with Tricia was awesome!! Meeting and conversing with the owners was a highlight of our stay. Beautifully constructed and well thought out regarding customer needs. I was not looking forward to operating the indoor woodstove and was pleasantly surprised to see the unit in the Yurt---it was so awesome to not have to worry about the heat. All aspects of the Yurt were beyond comfortable. Our next visit will not be soon enough!!
Thank you! You were a pleasure to host and we hope to see you back again soon!
I’m not a true camper so this was the perfect compromise. We disconnected to reconnect. Tricia was extremely accommodating. One of the best weekends I’ve ever had. We will be back!!!
Thank you!
The yurt was clean, well decorated, and equipped with all the equipment you need. The wood stove works awesome and you just need to stock the fire before you go to bed. The bathhouse is beautiful and a short walk from the yurt. You’re close to a lot of hiking, skiing and other outdoor adventure trails/places. It was a nice relaxing weekend and look forward to coming back in a different season. Thanks for a great stay!
Alex and Tricia were great hosts and these yurts were exactly as described. They are a perfect location for a ski weekend at Sunday River, or to explore the area a bit. We visited when the temps were well below zero and we were able to stay cozy with the wood stove and included firewood. My two young kids loved the loft area. There is enough cookware to make basic meals and the location is a very quick drive to town if you prefer takeout. The central bath house looks brand new, and we appreciated the hot showers and warmed floors after spending the day outside. I look forward to visiting again for ski weekends and in the summer months.
Thank you Chris! We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. We hope you come back again and hopefully the weather will be a bit milder next time!
Thank you Alex! We had a really sweet time, spent 2 nights with our dogs, and really loved the whole experience. Went cc skiing in national forest nearby and felt right at home. Very beautiful, clean, and cozy. Hope to come back again soon.
Thank you for your stay Jeffrey! We are thrilled that you had a good experience and appreciate you taking the time to let us know! We hope to see you back again.
