What is Western Maine Yurts?

Western Maine Yurts began as a dream.   A dream based off Alex's (owner/founder) many passions and interests.  The dream was to start a glamping facility in Bethel, Maine.  With the goal of creating a launching point for outdoors enthusiasts, artists, fly fisherman, skiers, snowboarders, etc. to base their adventures from.   Bethel is the gateway to the Western Mountains of Maine!  From here you have close access to the White Mountain National Forest, Grafton Notch State Park, the mighty Androscoggin River,  Sunday River Ski Area,  Mt Abram Ski Area and so much more.  We pride ourselves in helping put clients in touch with the best nature has to offer.  Whether thru guided fly fishing trips booked with us and our guides, or thru the other recreational guides we work closely with.  If you want to relax and find the best local swimming holes, or get a suggestion on a calm afternoon hike?  We have you covered!

As the years have passed Western Maine Yurts has taken on a more symbiotic relationship with Alex's other businesses and passions.  On site is where Alex paints and displays available works in his small studio/gallery.  From this location the podcast "Where Waters Meet" is also recorded.  Featuring informative discussion with other fly fishing and outdoor professionals.  In addition, Western Maine Yurts serves as the center of Alex's guiding.   A Registered Maine Guide,  Alex runs trips for trout, smallmouth, and pike from this location.  With custom Fish-n-Stay packages available!

Our goal at Western Maine Yurts is to help showcase our beautiful state in a truly unique way.   Whether you want to cuddle and read,  roast a marshmallow,  ski or snowboard, tube the river, cliff jump into a swimming hole, go for a hike, learn to fly fish,  target trophy fish, learn to tie flies,  we are here for you!

The Chandler Brook Village and Chandler Heights Village

At Western Maine Yurts we have two villages of 8 private 24ft yurts with a beautiful bathhouse. Each village is set amongst 128 acres of forest and wetland in Bethel, Maine. Chandler Brook Village is our original group of 8 yurts.  These yurts are accessed by 4 private driveways from the Chandler Hill Road and tucked into the surrounding forest. There are walking paths to and from the central bathhouse, and outhouses at each driveway not shared with the bathhouse for additional convenience. Chandler Heights Village is set up into the forest within our Loop Trail. These 8 yurts are located around a one way driveway loop with the bathhouse at the center. Chandler Heights Village offers a particularly ideal setting for groups of family, friends, or company retreats. Both villages of yurts have access to our growing network of recreational trails around the acreage.

Our property is 7 minutes from Mt. Abram ski area and mountain biking and 15 minutes from Sunday River ski area.  Downtown Bethel is only 2 miles away and offers a variety of options for dining, shops, and small town entertainment.  Locally, guests have access to the Androscoggin river for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding.  There is an expansive amount of trails for hiking, backpacking, and snowshoeing that can be found at Mahoosuc Land Trust, Bethel Community Forest, Grafton Notch State Park, Evans Notch, and other White Mountain National Forest parcels.  If you have a love for the Western Foothills of Maine and enjoy four season recreation this is the place for you!
