Named after a Maine river, The Kennabago sets along the Chandler Heights Village loop. The Kennabago is one of 8 yurts tucked within the forest on our 128 acre property and at the heart of our Loop Trail. Chandler Brook runs through the back of the property and meanders through a large marshland. The yurt has a locking front and side door. Guests enter the front door with a key code provided before check in.
Inside the yurt you will find a kitchenette complete with a draining sink, insulated Stanley water jug, propane camp cook stove (propane provided), enameled dinnerware set and percolator, stainless steel cookware, silverware, and serving utensils. It is fully furnished with a bar table, 4 barstools, living room seating, coffee table, and a timber frame bunk bed with two queen sized beds. *Note* bedding is not provided. Up to two dogs are welcomed with a pet fee of $20/night per dog. Doggy bags are provided for pet clean up and are located at the front door. Ample hooks are placed throughout the yurt for hanging jackets and drying wet gloves and hats near the propane fireplace. The propane fireplace offers ample heat through even the coldest winter weather. The yurt is equipped with a small solar system that powers the 12v LED lights and 2 USB and 2 USB-C outlets for charging phones, laptops, and iPads. *Note* guests should bring any adapters needed to plug into USB ports. A guest binder inside offers instructions for the solar power, stoves, a site map, and Bethel area dining and activities guides. Outside, 4 adirondack chairs are placed under strings of lights also powered by the solar panel. Solo Bonfire stoves are left on the stone seating area for outdoor fires year round. Stacks of firewood and baskets of fire starter and kindling are included at no extra fee!
Guests have access to the bathhouse located at the center of the village. It houses a ladies' and gent's side, each with 2 private hot showers and 3 toilet stalls. There is a handicap accessible toilet stall available in both bathrooms. The interior of the farmhouse style bathhouse feels warm and inviting with stained concrete floors throughout with radiant heat. The bathhouse has large rustic tub sinks for washing dishes and filling the water jug provided in each yurt. Our well water is tested monthly and approved by the Maine Drinking Water Program.
Guests can enjoy the surrounding forest on trails that we are continuing to expand. Our primary goal at Western Maine Yurts is to provide our guests with a four-season lodging option that is as connected to nature as possible. We aim to give a more luxurious and convenient camping/glamping experience where you can enjoy a hot shower after a day of outdoor activities. We hope you will embrace being unplugged from the fast pace of your normal life. Pause to listen to the rain on the roof, birds singing in the morning, and the breeze blowing in the trees. Enjoy a cozy cuddle on the couch with your favorite drink. And get out and explore all the Western Maine and the Bethel area have to offer!

My girlfriend and I had been wanting to stay in a yurt for awhile and this was the perfect option all around! Great little yurt campground type of vibe with a very very clean bathroom house. The yurt was in great and high quality condition, nice little features like the lights, USB ports, and Stanley jug for water use within the yurt. The gas heater in the yurt was also fantastic as it kept a perfectly stable temperature in the 10-20 degree snowy weather outside! Definitely recommend booking a yurt close to the bath house in the winter so you don't have to walk as far! The Western Maine Yurts is about a 5 minute drive from downtown Bethel which has great food options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well.
Started off school winter vacation with a weekend getaway. The weather was in the 20’s and single digits at nights but the yurt was toasty and we were more than comfortable with a tee shirt and shorts. I bumped into Alex the owner in passing one day while he was doing some chores, very friendly and helpful for sharing info about the area. Also very fast to respond via email with a couple questioned that popped up. I recommend visiting the gem museum down town, and the bowling alley was a good escape to get out of the cold for a few hours. I will be planning a return visit this summer!
We had a great stay in the Kennabago Yurt. Beautiful yurt, amazing woodland setting, easy access to bathhouse, and the fire kept us nice and cosy. Everything perfectly clean and very characterful. The bunk bed looked awesome. Would 100% recommend. We skied Sunday River and then also headed up Tuckerman's Raven. Great access to some beautiful spots
